Todd Wren

Associate Professor, Lighting Design

Todd Wren is the Associate Professor of Lighting Design for the University of Tennessee, Department of Theatre. He is a working professional Lighting Designer and has designed more than 300 productions across the country. In 2022, Todd designed the Off-Broadway production of Mr. Parker, a new play by Michael Mckeever and directed by Joe Brancato, and Breath and Imagination, directed by Geovany Jones, at The Penguin Repertory Theatre. Other New York City credits include The Sabbath Girl (59e59), The Fall to Earth (59e59), A Dash of Rosemary (Pantheon Theatre), Harry and Pep (Center Stage), and SeXurity (IRT). World premiere productions include Stand by Your Man, starring Grammy Award winner Jim Lauderdale and directed by Gabriel Barre; Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, conceived and choreographed by Chase Brock; and Turned Funny, directed by Fred Chappell.

Todd’s regional design credits include The Rubicon Theatre, Goodspeed Musicals, The Cleveland Playhouse, Seaside Musical Theatre, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, JFK Center for the Performing Arts, The Barter Theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, Florida Repertory Theatre, Riverside Theatre Vero Beach, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Mosaic Theatre-DC, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Casa Manana, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Gainesville Theatre Alliance, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Charlotte Repertory Theatre, Flat Rock Playhouse, South Carolina Children’s Theatre, Penguin Repertory Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre, The Warehouse Theatre, Peoples Light and Theatre Company, John W. Engman Theatre, Cape Fear Regional Theatre, Blowing Rock Stage Company, Peterborough Players, Theatre in the Square, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Temple Theatre, Ryman Auditorium, Playhouse on the Square, Town and Gown Theatre, and The State of Alabama Ballet.

Todd Wren is a vested member of IATSE/United Scenic Artist #829, an ETCP certified Entertainment Electrician, and trained ETC EOS and Grand MA3 programmer. Todd is an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Lighting Commission and has served as the Annual Convention Lighting Lab Coordinator since 2023.

Education: 2010 MFA Lighting Design, Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama
