The production of Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona was originally part of a summer-long residency with the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, MN, where UT Knoxville’s Graduate MFA Acting Company also understudied roles in The Comedy of Errors and Romeo and Juliet. This production was created to be performed in intimate community settings, allowing actors and audiences to be close to one another in space. By using simple storytelling techniques, the beauty of Shakespeare’s poetry, wordplay, story, and characters comes to life—becoming as accessible and fun as it was originally meant to be.
Special thank you to the Knoxville Museum of Art and Hi-Wire Brewery for their partnership. Don’t miss this unique and engaging production!
Best friends Valentine and Proteus travel from Verona to Milan to become gentlemen. But the course of growing up never did run smooth. Amid competitors, clowns, parents, and one unforgettable dog, these young friends—and the tenacious women they love—stumble through romance, betrayal, and reconciliation.
At turns silly and profound, Shakespeare’s first comedy asks timeless questions of youth: Who must I become to get what I want in life? Do I stay true to myself or shape myself to the world? Is what I want now what I’ll want tomorrow?

About Noshir Dalal
While his career may have begun in theatre, film, and television, Noshir is best known for his performance capture and voiceover work in video games and cartoons, and he has enjoyed playing both inspiring heroes and hateful villains in equal measure.
His most notable performance capture roles include: Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption 2, Kotallo in Horizon Forbidden West, Bode Akuna in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Mysterio in Spider-Man 2.
In voiceover, some of his favorite roles are: Vice Admiral Rampart in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Sekiro in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Yone in League of Legends, Rain in Mortal Kombat 1, and FU in No More Heroes 3.
More recently, Noshir has rediscovered his love for tabletop gaming – joining the wonderful folks at Critical Role for both Candela Obscura, Chapter 3: The Circle of Tide and Bone, where he played Professor Rajan Savarimuthu, and Season 3 of Critical Role for Downfall, as The Emissary.

A work-in-progress sharing
Friday, November 3, 2:00pm HPER room B020
Gulliver’s Travels is a 1726 prose satire by the Anglo-Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift, satirizing both human nature and the “travelers’ tales” literary subgenre. Swift claimed that he wrote Gulliver’s Travels “to vex the world rather than divert it.” The book was an immediate success and has been hailed as a seminal work in the canon of English literature. This is exactly why Zack Fine, a middle-aged regional theatre actor who has lately been out of work and struggling to pay his bills, attempts to adapt Gulliver’s Travels. He’s pretty sure that this will be his ticket to the success that has eluded him for most of his career.
The reading will feature the first-year MFA Acting graduates in their first public performance.
Wednesday | Ocober 18 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM | Carousel Theatre
