About Our Faculty and Staff

The Department has a full-time faculty of thirteen and a fully professional regional theatre staff. All faculty members are practicing professional artists as well as dedicated teachers. Eight faculty members teach acting, directing, and history and literature of the theatre, while five teach design and technology. Senior lecturers and several resident artists of the Clarence Brown Theatre also teach, act, direct, and otherwise participate fully in the work of the Department. Further complementing the faculty, two eminent scholars of dramatic literature from the English Department teach and otherwise contribute as adjunct faculty of the Theatre Department.

Featured Staff

Kyle Schellinger, staff cutter/draper at the Clarence Brown Theatre, was selected to show his half-scale period costumes at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design this past summer.

“All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That’s what makes theatre live. That’s why it persists.”
